What is ABA and PBS?

Expand the sections below for more information.

What is Applied Behaviour Analysis or ABA?

ABA is the process of systematically applying interventions based upon the principles of learning theory to improve socially significant behaviours to a meaningful degree.

A wide variety of ABA techniques have been developed for building useful skills in learners with autism – from toddlers through adulthood.

An effective ABA intervention is not a “one size fits all” approach and should never be viewed as a template set of programs or drills.

Drawing on a wide network of experience and expertise means that the support All Behaviour Consultancy provides can be tailored and built around the needs of each individual and their environment.

What is Positive Behaviour Support or PBS?

PBS emerged as an approach from Applied Behaviour Analysis. It is a behaviour management system used to understand what maintains an individual’s challenging behaviour.

Values emphasise a commitment to helping individuals (and their families and advocates) achieve a good quality of life.

The client always main focus of the assessment and treatment and clinical and educational services should be guided by the individual characteristics of the client and his or her environment.

PBS promotes the use of procedures based on positive reinforcement as opposed to punishment.
