Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) emerged as an approach from Applied Behaviour Analysis. It is a behaviour management system used to understand what maintains an individual’s challenging behaviour.
Values emphasise a commitment to helping individuals (and their families and advocates) achieve a good quality of life.
The client is always the main focus of the assessment and treatment. Clinical and educational services should be guided by the individual characteristics of the client and their environment.
PBS promotes the use of procedures based on positive reinforcement as opposed to punishment.
