Introduction to Shaping Leaders
Shaping Leaders is a platform to empower aspiring and current behaviour analysts of colour. Diversity and representation are crucial in any field, and the field of behaviour analysis is no exception.
Founded by Georgiana Koyama, MsC, BCBA and Melody Sylvain MS, BCBA, Shaping Leaders nurture future leaders within the UK.
Growing Leaders with Courage
Emerging from the poignant backdrop of the 2020 protests across the US, UK, and beyond, Shaping Leaders took root.
These global calls for change ignited vital conversations about racial injustice and bias within the realm of behaviour analysis.
Compelling research and statistics from the BACB underlined a stark reality: certified practitioners of Black and other marginalized backgrounds account for fewer than 20%.
Our mission is resolute - to catalyze a remarkable surge in the presence of Black leaders and BCBAs within the dynamic sphere of behaviour analysis.
Black Leadership in Behavior Analysis
Through fostering impactful mentoring connections, fostering introspection, offering guidance, and cultivating adept leadership abilities, Shaping Leaders is dedicated to empowering Black professionals.
Our aim is to bolster their self-assurance, equip them to exert influence and guide them toward their leadership aspirations.
We hold a vision where an increased number of Black and marginalized individuals feel the warmth of encouragement, propelling them to stride confidently into leadership roles within the realm of ABA.
An envisaged outcome of the Shaping Leaders program is the notable uptake of individuals of colour taking the helm in leadership positions.
Together, we're nurturing a community that grasps the intricacies of diversity, discrimination, inclusivity, and the pursuit of equality and equity within the field's tapestry.
Our mission at Shaping Leaders is that our community will have a greater understanding of issues related to diversity, discrimination, inclusion, equality and equity in the field as a whole.
